Email Views
Beyond the dashboard, BackupMonitor keeps searchable lists of every email it receives. Each list serves a different purpose.
Backup Mails
The Backup Mails page is a chronological audit trail of all processed backup status emails. Each row shows the device, job, status, backup software type, and when the email arrived.
Click any row to view the original email. This is useful when you need to verify what BackupMonitor parsed, or share the raw report with a colleague.
Backup mails feed the dashboard heatmap. They contain structured job results — success, failure, or warning per backup run.
Notification Mails
Notifications are a separate category of email. They carry events and alerts that are not backup job results — things like health checks, proxy offline warnings, software update summaries, or disk space alerts.
Each notification has a severity (info, warning, or error) and appears in the dashboard sidebar as well as the full Notifications list. They do not affect backup job status colors on the dashboard.
BackupMonitor distinguishes backup emails from notification emails automatically. A given email is always one or the other, never both.
Ignored Mails
Some emails are deliberately skipped — test messages, license reminders, marketing mail from backup vendors, and similar noise. These appear on the Ignored Mails page with a reason why they were ignored.
You can add ignore rules based on subject-line regular expressions. Any future email matching a rule is silently ignored. This is helpful for recurring non-backup emails from the same sender.
Processing Errors
When BackupMonitor receives an email it cannot parse — unknown format, corrupt content, or no matching parser — it lands in Processing Errors.
Review the error details, click the row to read the original email, and archive the entry once handled. Common next steps:
- Enable AI Email Classification in Settings to let AI attempt routing for unrecognized emails
- Contact support if your backup software is not yet supported — custom parsers can be added
- Use the Ingest API if the software does not send parseable emails
